Introducing DataPipe
DataPipe is a swiss-army knife for performing text operations on data in live 24x7
production databases where the system cannot be taken down for maintenance and the
operation is too complex to perform using vanilla SQL. Operations include:
- search and replacing with pattern matching, sounds-like or fuzzy matching (multiple
search and replace operations in a single pass)
- fixing the capitalization of text (very useful for names and surnames)
- Running VBScript or JScript (or PerlScript, PythonScript, REXXscript etc)
macros against columns
- converting between ASCII and EBCDIC, OEM and ANSI, Unicode and ANSI
- adding or removing left and right margins, headers, footers and line
numbers
- removing extra whitespace
- forcing text to a specified width
- removing blank lines
- fixing common punctuation mistakes
- removing garbage characters
- and much, much more
DataPipe allows all user settings to be saved and opened so that the same tasks can be
repeated in the future without re-keying.
